The Story
A stunning evergreen with lush foliage and a soft touch
The Royal Splendor® Norway Spruce stands out in any landscape with its tight, shiny green needles that boast a uniquely softer texture. Unlike other Norway spruce varieties that may develop weeping branches as they age, Royal Splendor® maintains its distinctive pyramidal shape, creating a regal focal point in your garden or yard.
Choosing this spruce is a smart decision for several reasons. In cold Northern climates, it’s an excellent choice for a windbreak or privacy screen thanks to its exceptional hardiness and dense growth habit. It’s also deer resistant, grows quickly once established, and doesn’t require pruning, giving your yard majestic appeal without constant maintenance. Whether you have a spacious yard or a cozy garden, this spruce is sure to add a touch of elegance for years to come.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location that receives plenty of sunlight and has well-draining soil. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball. Place the tree in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil, then backfill and pack lightly. Â Spread a 3" layer of mulch 3 feet around the tree, pulling the mulch back a few inches from the trunk.
2. Watering: Water your Royal Splendor® Norway Spruce regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once set, it requires less frequent watering, but make sure the soil does not dry out completely. Monitor for signs of drought, especially during dry spells.
3. Pruning: Light pruning can be done in late winter or early spring to maintain the tree's shape and remove any dead or damaged branches. Avoid heavy pruning, as this can harm the natural beauty and structure of the tree.
4. Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to promote healthy growth. Follow the package instructions for application rates, and avoid over-fertilizing, as it can lead to excessive, weak growth.
